Dr. McGreevy or one of his associates will come to your school or facility and serve as your consultant or will provide a consultation for you at our clinic in Winter Park, Florida, USA. The consultant will begin by interviewing teachers, speech pathologists, behavior specialists, behavior analysts, care providers, and parents. Then, she or he will conduct one or more observations of the child or adult for whom the assistance was requested and probe specific replacement skills and teaching procedures. The consultant may also conduct an initial functional assessment or review completed skill assessments, such as the ABLLS or the VB-MAPP. After completing these activities, the consultant will make specific recommendations, which may include some or all of the following:

  • target specific problem behaviors for reduction, especially aggressive and self-injurious behaviors
  • target specific replacement skills and behaviors for acquisition, especially communication and language skills, along with social and functional daily living skills
  • use specific teaching procedures (e.g., non-contingent reinforcement, contriving and capturing motivational operations, errorless teaching, prompting and prompt-fading, shaping, forward and backward chaining, discrete trial and natural environmental teaching, differential reinforcement, extinction, timeout and response cost) until the replacement behaviors and a substantial number of targeted acquisition skills begin to account for most of the child's or adult's behavioral repertoire and the problem behaviors rarely occur
  • use specific procedures until these behaviors and skills are maintained, exhibited at a fluent level, and occur in a number of circumstances; and

The consultant will train teachers, speech pathologists, behavior specialists, behavior analysts, care providers, and parents to implement the recommendations, provide follow-up training and consultation, and revise the recommendations as necessary. Dr. McGreevy or one of his associates will also be available to assist with the planning and implementation of training activities and workshops for additional teachers, speech pathologists, behavior specialists, behavior analysts, care providers, and parents.
